Tom Hanks might be set for one of his most heartwarming roles to date with reports the actor is in talks to star in Disney’s Pinocchio.

It’s reported that the Toy Story actor could be set to play the loveable Geppetto in Disney’s live-action remake of their classic tale.

According to Deadline, Tom was actually the one to reach out to director Robert Zemeckis about a role in the anticipated animation.

Disney have had a long run of successful live-action remakes in recent years, including The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.

Tom would certainly fit right in with the new Pinocchio family as he has worked with Zemeckis extensively in the past.

The pair teamed up for 1994’s Forrest Gump, Cast Away in 2000 and 2004’s The Polar Express.

The original Pinocchio, released in 1940, was based on Carlo Collodi’s children’s novel The Adventures of Pinocchio.

It told the story of a wood-carver, Geppetto, who carved a wooden puppet brought to life by a fairy. That puppet was told he would become a real boy if he proved himself to be ‘brave, truthful, and unselfish’.

The rest was truly magical.

However, before he signs up with Disney, Tom will first have to tackle the grittier role in the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.

He will star as Colonel Tom Parker in the currently untitled project.

It was during filming for the biopic in Australia when Tom, 64, became one of the first celebrities to contract coronavirus.

The Oscar-winning actor and his wife Rita Wilson were forced to quarantine down under for several weeks while recovering before finally flying back to Los Angeles.
