Phoebe Waller-Bridge has officially broken all our hearts by confirming that Fleabag is never going to return.
The actress, who wrote and starred in the series, has become an international phenomenon thanks to the show, which saw a woman in her thirties navigate grief, love and loss in her own unique way.
At the end of two series, it appeared that the character waved goodbye to the audience, who she often spoke to through the camera, and went off on her own after getting her heart broken.
Speaking to The Mirror’s Notebook, Phoebe has confirmed that it really was the final goodbye from the beloved and complicated role.
‘No [she’s not returning],’ the actress said. ‘I think we have to let her go, she’s exhausted. She’s been through a lot.
‘But we’re all going to work together again, so there will be something of the Fleabag spirit to come back.’
Thankfully for fans that’s sooner rather than later, as Andrew Scott – who played the Hot Priest love interest in the second series – has confirmed their next project.
Speaking at Comic-Con at home, the actor, who is starring as John Parry in His Dark Materials, has confirmed that Phoebe will be joining the cast.
In a role that spoke to the heart of Fleabag fans everywhere, Andrew revealed that Phoebe will be the voice of his daemon – an animal manifestation of his character’s soul – in the fantasy series.
We knew they’d be bonded together forever. We just didn’t think it would be in an entirely separate and fictional universe.
Fleabag is available on BBC iPlayer.
