Ben Chilwell will tell Leicester City bosses he wants to join Chelsea this week after Brendan Rodgers’ side failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The England international, 23, is a top target for Chelsea this summer, with Frank Lampard’s side already very active in the transfer market.

Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have already been added to the Chelsea squad, with Kai Havertz also thought to be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

And Chilwell is expected to make the move to west London.

Chelsea’s hopes of signing him will be handed a further boost this week, according to The Mirror, with Chilwell to lay out his plans to leave.

He sees his long-term future at Chelsea and hopes to be their first-choice left-back for the next five years at least.

While he has been at Leicester since the age of 12, he is highly ambitious and wants to be in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI for Euro 2021.

Playing Champions League football will no doubt strengthen his case and Leicester look set to lose one of their most prized assets.

Rodgers recently said he was ‘relaxed’ about Chilwell’s future but Leicester are used to losing their top talent to the Premier League’s big boys.

However, they have been typically well compensated in deals for Riyad Mahrez, N’Golo Kante and Harry Maguire to Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United and they would expect the same for Chilwell.

Their owners are under no pressure to sell financially, which will mean Chelsea have to spend big to sign him.

James Maddison, however, is expected to commit his future to The Foxes as he prepares to sign a new deal.
